Welcome to Lemon Laces – A Devon Photo Journal by Kate Coldrick

I’m Kate Coldrick, and Lemon Laces is my photo journal from 2016–2019 – a quiet record of life in Woodbury, Exeter, and the wider East Devon landscape. These images were taken daily, often without words, simply capturing the small moments that made up our days: walks, weather, familiar textures, and the gentle rhythm of home.

My Doc Marten boots threaded with lemon-coloured laces – the starting point for this Devon photo journal and my daily wellbeing walks.

I began this project at a difficult time in my life, when I decided to walk every day for my wellbeing. I took a camera with me as a reminder to focus on what I was seeing – a small act of mindful grounding and being present in the world around me. When I first bought my Doc Martens, they came with a spare set of lemon-coloured laces. I originally threaded the black laces into my boots, but when I committed to daily walks, I changed them for the lemon ones as a quiet symbol of that decision.

Each photo on this site comes from those walks. Although I stopped updating the journal at the beginning of 2019, I still walk every day, and I’ve opened this archive so it can remain part of my wider creative and educational work – a small corner of Devon preserved in photographs and memory.

Thank you for visiting and for spending time among these everyday moments.
